Outside Printable Area
Hello Everyone,
I am using W7, Ultimate 64 Bit. Ms. Office 2010. Word. Printer - Model Name: Deskjet 2050 All-in-One J510a Firmware Version:…………..SLM2FN1006BR Serial No:…………………..CN0BD3F28805D1 Service ID:………………….21074 IK No:………………………..670 Software Version:…………028.000.1313.000 Printer Driver Version:…..09.84.00.1189 I have a serious issue only with printing a text document with a border. Each time I try to print I get the pop-up notice that - "The page borders of section 1 are outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?" On selecting all the choices for margins with a border, I get the same notice. I was trying to obtain a Mirror print so that a landscape print would have a border around both sides. The pre-print (portrait) view shows the bottom border cut by over half. The pre-print (Landscape) view shows the right hand border cut by over half. Adjusting the bottom margin size in Portrait or the right hand side margin in Landscape does not help. Is this a "thing" with this HP printer, that it will not allow a border to be printed around any design with a margin ? Not being at all technical, this has me incredibly frustrated, and I would appreciate any advice!! If the printer will not print to order, I might as well get rid of it and buy a make that will do as requested! Thanks, Colinito. |

It rather depends what you mean by a border. If you mean you are trying to print to the edge of the page, then you are going to be disappointed. Most (if not all) desktop printers will not print to the edge of the page, but will leave a small border. The width of this 'border' is determined by the printer driver.
Professional printers would work with an oversize page cropped to the final area to allow printing to the edge of the paper.

Hello gmayor,
Thank you for your reply. OK, Using Word 2010, and A4 paper, this is what I do. When the text is complete, I go to "Page Layout" click on "Borders" then at the bottom, on "Art" and choose a design from the drop-down pictures. Then click OK. Then when I try to print, that is when the problem described in my letter occurs. As I mentioned previously, I have chosen different margins and none of my choices work. From your words, it appears that there may be another "adjustment" that does not involve choosing a border. If this is the case, I would be grateful to learn what and how to effect this to enable the chosen border to be printed. Regards, Colinito. |

You didn't say which border art, but no matter. Does the attached produce the same issue?

Your document prints fine here without error messages. I regret I have no idea why this error is occurring for you - particularly as you indicate you have the same problem with the document I posted.
My gut feeling is that the issue relates to the printer driver. Check its settings - especially paper size - match those of the document. As a further test, install PrimoPDF which will add a printer driver to Windows and print to that driver to create a PDF file. See if you get the error then. If not, see if there's an update for your printer driver.

Hello Graham,
Thanks for your reply. I have, supposedly, just updated the driver. When going to 'Customise your printer' there is a box with 'Draw Borders' written beside it. It is greyed out and will not take a check mark. I can find no other details, where I might be able to adjust the printing. Your suggested link appears to be a free PDF converter. I downloaded the PrimoPDF and tried to run it. I was given an immediate warning from my AVG that it contains OpenCandy.7AF which I am informed is a threat. I shall not download it at this time! But await your suggestion to carry on or not! Regards, Colinito. |

Hello Graham,
I have achieved the result! I now write in detail what I have done in the hope that if there is anyone with a similar problem as I have been having, that this may be of assistance to them. I chose a page of text, opened it and opened Page Layout. I chose Mirrored margins. I then chose Landscape orientation. I then chose Two Columns. Going to Page Borders, I chose a border from the Art drop-down. Still in “Page Borders” I then clicked on Options and clicked on “Measure From,” In the drop-down display I chose “Text.” I then Saved it in PDF Format to the Desk Top. I have a PDF converter and used it to convert the PDF to Word, and saved the result to the Desk Top. I then opened the converted-to-Word document and under the File Tab, I chose Print. It then printed out with full borders. My thanks to you, for your assistance. Even though this is a long and protracted process, the result is what I have been striving to obtain for more than two years! Sincere regards, Colinito. |

http://download.cnet.com/PrimoPDF/30...rt=dl-10264577 This is indeed a free PDF converter and that link doesn't report any virus issue here with AVG? However in view of your subsequent message it now seems superfluous.

Hello Graham,
I have not returned to your link to discover it's address - maybe something went wrong, but as you mention, it doesn't apply now as I have managed to do this - obviously after reading that you suggested using a PDF conversion - by using the PDF converter which I had previously downloaded. [Free PDF to Word Converter] I have a couple of friends who have said that they also have this problem so I shall pass the message to them also! Many grateful thanks, without your assistance this could never have been accomplished. Not sure if or how to close the thread or how to give "kudos" for providing the answer to my question. Kind regards, Colinito. |
