Default Word 2007 - saving as PDF - letters messed up

Hello!

I'm still using MS Word 2007 and when I save a document as a PDF file all the letters get a bit dislocated, messy, ugly to see and hard to read. I don't save any pictures, text only, and it's still messy.

Anyone else ever experienced anything like that?

Is it fixable? I don't want to use an external DOC to PDF program, I'd like Word to properly save into PDF format.

Thank you!

Which font / size?

I wouldn't expect a really quick response. Answers here are posted by volunteers. In the USA it is the beginning of a three-day holiday weekend.

Times New Roman / 12. I tried with Arial 11 and that didn't help either.

I understand, well, I'll wait.

Suggestion:
Put together a small sample document that causes the problem and the resulting pdf in a zip file and attach it here.

Good idea, here it is, in the zip file, a pdf with one page of text, the font is Times New Roman, size is 12. See how the letters are too far apart and too close at certain points - that is the problem.

There is certainly a problem visible in your version, but it is not a problem inherent in the Office PDF tool available with Office 2007 and I have been unable to recreate the problem here - see attached

What does it look like in Print Preview (before creating the PDF)? Word is a slave to the printer driver and it may be that which is causing the anomaly.

Yes, your PDF looks fine here too. When I try the print preview everything still looks alright. I have no clue what the problem is.

For me to tell you any more (and I may not be able to do so) I would want to see the original Word document as well as the pdf that results.

Do you have the same problem in Safe Mode? If so, all I can suggest is repairing your Word installation.

When I save your file as pdf, in Word 2007, I don't have the problem you are seeing.

Yes, I've just tried saving to a PDF in safe mode and it's all the same.

Anyway, thank you (both) for helping me, I won't go repairing my Office installation now, I'll just use the online DOC2PDF converter for now.

I recall Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 being available for free from Adobe as a download. You might want to search the web for information. That would give you another avenue. If you find it, you might want to post a link here.

Here is from https://josephlo.wordpress.com/2013/...y-from-adobe/:
Quote:
In case you have not heard, Adobe is giving away older versions of their software and this includes Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro. This is to me an unexpected move by Adobe to curb piracy of their software. No, this is not a scam. I am not sure how long this offer will last but it will be wise to download this while you still can.

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html

You will need to register for a free account with Adobe in order to download this and registration is free of course.

Sure. The software is an older version 8. The latest version is version 11 as of this writing. But something that is older does not mean it is not functional and just as useful.

So now no one has an excuse not to start off with their paperless journey
A caveat from http://downloads.pcauthority.com.au/..._professional:

Quote:
Be aware, though, the program was originally written for use on Windows 2000 and XP, and trying to run it on a modern PC may result in all kinds of issues. We managed to set it up on a Windows 7 x64 system regardless, but you may not be so lucky, and installation is only the first potential problem area. Don't download the program unless you're willing to spend plenty of time trying to get it working.

If you're happy with this, then first download the APRO23_Win_ESD1_WWEFG.exe executable. It's a chunky 478MB in size, so choose a computer with a fast internet connection.

The installer should run correctly on Windows 2000/ XP. If you're using anything later, though, you'll need to give it a little help. On our Windows 7 x64 PC, we right-clicked the file, selected Properties > Compatibility, checked "Run this program in compatibility mode" and selected "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)".

We then launched the executable, and watched as it extracted its files. If the program crashes at the end of this process, though, you might want to try another compatibility mode option, or just run it as an administrator.

Once the files are ready, setup launches. Choose your language, and click Next.

Choose your "Default application for viewing PDF". Acrobat 8 Pro will set itself as the default viewer here, but because it's so old, that's almost certainly not a good idea. If it also offers "Adobe Reader 11" (or anything else, in fact), choose that and click Next.

You'll be asked for your registration details. Enter your name and (optionally) company, and use the serial number 1118-1414-1955-8737-8172-0350 . Click Next > Next.
