Default headers/footers

I have 64 different header sections with page breaks to note chapter titles. I need the page numbering to be continuous through entire document, not restarted at each of the 64 sections. I cannot seem to separate the footers from headers. I have word 2010. There MUST be a way: page numbering 1-450 with different headers throughout.

First, it is highly unlikely that if you properly use the StyleRef Field that you need that many different headers. You do not need a section break to have the header reflect the contents of the current chapter. While there may be very good reasons for having 65 sections, chances are that changing the header is not one of them.

Second, it is relatively easy to have continuous page numbering. You have the numbering in each section continue from previous.

The 64 different header titles are essential as this is an important tech manual. As for "continue from previous" for page numbering, that defaults the header content to the previous also, forcing me to have the same header content throughout unless I hand type each and every single page number. I'll do what I gotta do, but I cant be the first person needing to have continuous page numbers with different header sections. Try it: Create page breaks with different header content and watch what happens with page numbering.

Continue from previous for page numbering has nothing to do with "Link to Previous" for headers and footers. These are separate controls in separate places in Word. You can easily have continuous page numbering; it is the default.

Again, look into the StyleRef Field as to the need for different headers. That field lets you reflect the content of that part of the body of your document in the header so that the same header will read differently depending on the content of the page.
