![]() When I press enter, it automatically double-spaces. This is very irksome to me, as I only want a single space when I press enter... if I wanted a double space, I would press enter again. Does anyone know how to change this back to the '03 default? |

This is most probably an inadvertent change in your default paragraph settings.
Open a new document and type Alt+O,P or otherwise open your paragraph dialogue box. If the line spacing (lower right of box) shows Double, you can change it to single. However, it will remain double in the Normal.dot template on which your new documents are based. Type Alt+O,S to open the Styles pane on the right of your document. The Normal paragraph style will have a bue box around it, indicating that this is the style--i.e., set of font, size, line-spacing, etc. presets--applied. Right click on the name Normal and select Modify. In then ensuing dialogue box, click on the Format button, bottom left, and select Paragraph. In the line spacing, select single and click OK. Then, before closing the Modify Style box, at the bottom select New documents based on this template. |

Ulodesk is 100% correct, but, a bandaid solution I commonly use is:
If you hold Shift while you push Enter it will usually enter to just below. This works in instant message windows, also! Yipee! Good luck <3 |

Careful with this! If you display your hidden characters, you'll see that what you get is a little arrow instead of a paragraph marker. This is often called a soft return, and it means that you are still in the same paragraph. Therefore, any paragraph-formatting changes applied to subsequent lines will be applied to those above as well, within the paragraph.
