Try the following: Click File | Options | Advanced. Under "Show document content," make sure that "Show picture placeholders" is cleared and that "Show drawings and text boxes on screen" is selected.
At File | Options | Display, make sure that "Print drawings created in Word" is selected. It isn't obvious that the options are relevant for embedded/linked objects, but these objects are basically treated as images or drawings as far as the display options are concerned. Hälsningar Stefan
