Word 2003 document saves as Wordpad docx
I've recently installed Office 365 after using Office 2003 for a few years. Today I opened a document created on Word 2003 to make a few alterations - so far so good.
However, when it came to saving the altered version, instead of giving me the option of replacing the old version it saved the altered version as a docx file which opens as a Wordpad document unless I right-click the file and choose the "open with" option and select Word. Can anyone throw any light on this please. |

I suspect that you have blocked saving as a .doc file in your Word options in Word 365(2013).
File > Options > Trust Center > File Block Options Uncheck the option for saving. See screenshot below. You may need to re-register your Word 365 so that it becomes the default program to open .docx files. Search this site for reregister Word. |

Thanks for your speedy reply Charles. I followed your instructions - nothing wrong in Trust Center, but the screen shot showed me the error of my ways. Why should I open a document in one format, alter it, and then try to save it in another? As a certain character from your side of the pond would say - DOH!
Thanks again Charles, and I'm off to find a brick wall to beat my head against. |
