Default Leaving change indicators after accepting changes

I have a revised document in which I'd like to have change bars to indicate where changes were made to the prior version. Of course, once I accept the changes, the change bars disappear.

Just for the indication of a change, I've tried inserting borders at the changed lines (before accepting changes) but that apparently only works on full paragraphs, not just a single line at a time.

Does anybody have any ideas about how to leave change markers in a document, after accepting changes, to help with historical documentation of where changes to the document occurred?

Thanks,

Jeffrey Bledsoe

Default Not sure I follow

I'm not sure I follow your concept 100%. Let me ask you this; if you have document 1 (original) and you make changes, why not save those modifications as document 2(revised). When you make changes to document 2, save again, etc.

Then you can always run a comparison on any version of a document to see what changes are in the document.

By leaving 'markers' in the document, you seem to be saving over the original but wishing to leave tags to makr your trail. I think it might be easier just to build a version of each document based on the revisions and then run comparisons against those versions.

I hope this helps. I wasn't 100% clear on the original concept to answer it confidently.

Default leaving changebars

Patti,

Thanks for the reply. I had used the compare/merge feature to create the 'difference' document. I resolved the issue by only displaying change bars (no bubbles, etc.) under Tools/Options/Track Changes(tab) and then only accepting changes in the first few changes of 'front matter'. This left change bars in the remainder of the document, as desired. And yes, I did want to leave a trail of changes I had made.

The problem with the approach I used is, depending on how someone else's Word application is set up, bubbles and other miscellaneous undesired change indicators could be displayed when he opens the document.

Thanks again,

Jeff
