Default Word 2013 asks about changing template all the time

I've running Windows 7 Pro and MS-Word 2013 on my new HP laptop.

All is well -- I've used "winders" and Word for ages, and Word is working fine although the huge set of options that now appear were at first hard to navigate but I'm okay now.

My only problem is that when I finished editing a document (a standard stand alone document, not a special doc that's linked to others or whatever, just a short story or chapter of my new book or a letter). In other words a regular standard doc.

When I exit and then close the folder, or when I'm shutting down the PC, I get this message about altering the Word template and saving the changes.

I have no desire to use or alter the template and in fact I'm not really using a template at all -- I just have reloaded my older docs from the old Word 97 I was once using and resaved them as new Word 2013 docs.

I really don't use templates (used to) but now I'm just typing a short story or article or other things (you can see from my sig that I'm a writer) and all I want to do is to save the darn doc and quit.

How do I "disconnect" this message that I keep getting about altering the template? There must be some sort of hidden option that I accidentally set or was set as a default. I usually say no or yes and sometimes it takes me to a template folder that I have zero interest in accessing.

All I want to do is just make a plain vanilla "save" and quit Word.

Thanks in advance for the help!

This is usually due to a poorly written Add-In. See Save Changes to the Global Template? Keeps Popping Up and Add-Ins in Microsoft Word.

I don't use addins and have not installed any of them.

My laptop was purchased new in September w. Windows 7Pro and I also bought a new and certified copy of Word 2013 (plus Excel) and installed Office fresh.

I've not downloaded or created or otherwise added anything at all to Word. I'm using it straight out of the box.

And yes I run AV and malware scans all the time and my PC is clean.

Is there some internal option in Word 2013 that I can reset or change that stops the template prompt?

Frankly I don't care if the template gets changed anyway -- I never use it and instead start w. a blank doc and set my fonts and whatever myself.

Thanks

Even if you have a brand new computer and have not installed any Add-Ins they may be there. Read the article.

Yes I found a couple of addins that were automatic when I loaded Word. I've deleted them and now I don't get the annoying prompt.

Thanks

You are welcome. Sometimes these are installed by the computer manufacturer and sometimes they are installed without any notice when you install other software.

Frankly, you do care even if you don't know it. When you start with a blank document, that document is based on that template. Changes to the template will change future blank documents. Every document in Word is attached to a template, the blank template by default.

Yes I know all docs are attached to a template but I only make changes to text and smaller items and never mess with the template. And for many of my docs, they are transfers from Word 97 and so they aren't new.

But the issue is now moot. I disconnected the addins (they were automatic) that involved Bluetooth (which I don't even have or use) and now the doc just saves and all is fine.

Now I can get back to writing my new mystery novel, huh?

ha ha

Thanks. The first 2 were purchased and published (now out of print) and the 3rd is now at the publisher. I'm working on the 4th in the series.

Day at a time is how it works, like most everything else.

Fyi, I was once very much "into" computers -- I was systems manager for an engineering firm and I supported their scientific / engineering computers and also wrote programs for analysis (high level calculus and so on). Then I was support manager for the US and Canadian installations of a top-end system that designed printed circuits and microchips, almost a black art. Later I was project manager for 2 divisions that sold structural design and drafting software worldwide.

Later I worked in consulting for "big oil" firms involved in deepwater drilling and exploration, mostly for environmental and safety specs and such. So I did a huge amount of MS-Word documentation w. master/slave documents and many automated features, lots of complex templates.

All the time I've been a writer too, short stories and articles and book/movie reviews, and now I'm concentrating on my fiction. So as a result I only use the computer as a tool and never as an entertainment, ha ha. Therefore I care zero about the internals of computers or software now, and only want the stuff to work for me so I can get on with my books.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I've now got MS-Word pretty well tamed.
