Default HTML Checkbox into Word

Hello

For years I've been using Word to distribute documents for people to make changes. I then collect these changes and make the updates to our database using an HTML Form.

In order to create the documents I copy and paste a preview of the document from my browser into MS Word as everyone in our office knows how to use MS Word easily (I could export to PDF, but training everyone to make changes in PDF is an uphill battle, and track changes in Word makes things so much easier.

The issue is this - recently copying and pasting HTML Checkboxes into Word 2013 has stopped working and I have been unable to determine what has happened. Instead of retaining the formatting of the HTML page, all checkboxes have red x's in them. So there is no way to track changes to the checkboxes (or even review what the original value was - checked or unchecked).

Has anyone else noticed this behavior and come up with a workaround? Please see the attached image - some of these should be checked, others should not be... but instead all have a large red X and the formatting was not retained.
