Default Can't delete page break

It seems that there is an unremovable page break, because I can't merge one page with a following page. Tehre are just a couple lines on one page, and on the next page a couple lines, and I want to bring the second couple lines up to directly under the two lines above. Is this a page break or what?

PS: In Word 2013 apparently you can't view fields anymore. At least I can't find any instructions for doing it.

If you click the ¶ button on the Home Tab, what does that show?
Can you attach the document (or the part with the break?) so we can see what is involved?
Field constructions may be displayed with ALT+F9 as in earlier versions

If there are graphics (other than inline with text), click the ¶ button on the home tab as Graham described, then click each graphic and see if it is anchored to the page break. If so, drag the anchor to another paragraph. When there are no graphics anchored to the page break it may be possible to delete the manual page break.
Also, I believe tables with wrapping set to Around can have the same effect of making it difficult to delete a page break that immediately follows the table. If this is the case, click just before the page break and press Enter. This should result in the paragraph immediately after the table not having a page break, with the page break following that. Now try deleting the page break.
In most cases I prefer to format a paragraph with Page Break Before rather than inserting a manual page break. Just to be clear, I refer here only to manual page breaks, not section breaks.

Showing non-printing formatting marks in Microsoft Word

I don't think you mean "view fields" but... To view field codes you would press Alt+F9. This is a toggle and at some point you would want to toggle the view back to field results.

The formatting of the first paragraph on the second page may include page break before. This would be found by right-clicking in that paragraph then choosing "Paragraph" and checking that setting..

Thanks to all of you for your help. If the manual page break symbol is a triangle pointing southeast (and the toggle is shown by the triangle pointing to east), I found it. And when I clicked the southeasterly-pointed triangle, the text on the next page moved up to where I wanted it to. Your respose was a nice welcome to this forum.

I'm not sure what you mean by the southeast triangle, but if you click the ¶ symbol on the home tab you will see the formatting marks such as paragraph symbols and page breaks. The page breaks have the words "Page Break", although in some cases you won't be able to read it due to graphics covering it and other considerations. However, usually you will see a horizontal dotted line that helps reveal page and section breaks even if you can't see the words.

Anyhow, glad to hear you got it sorted out.
