Photo 4 - no, no rulers (not outside the picture either) And no, I didn't turn them off - at least not intentionally.

If the "Collapse the Ribbon" were displayed, I guess we'd know what to do... In Word safe mode it is displayed when I right-click.

OK. That it works in Safe mode means the problem is not in your Word program, itself. Read the article on Add-Ins.

Another diagnostic would be to temporarily rename your normal.dotm file.
Normal Template in Microsoft Word - How to Find or Open the Normal Template
Check the Add-Ins first.

(Time for me to get to my day job!)

Now this is really weird. After all that hassle, I started my computer this morning to find that EVERYTHING IS BACK where it's supposed to be! ? I was going to study the add-in article (and still will, in case this happens again) but the problem fixed itself.

Is this simply because I started it in Safe mode, powered down, and powered up again?

Anyway, problem solved.

Magic happens! Safe mode isn't supposed to fix anything, but I wouldn't complain either!
