Cool Menu and formatting options not displayed at the top of my document

I was using keyboard shortcuts and somehow came up with a combination in error, that resulted in all menu options and formatting info at the top of my document being 'hidden'.
When I hover at the top of the document they appear again, however this is horrible to work with.
How do I get my toolbar back permanently?

Do you see a list of the tabs across the top? If so, double click on one.

If not do you see a View or View Options along the top?

Double clicking got most of it back, but I am missing the quick save icons etc.

These icons are likely the quick action toolbar (QAT). It can be displayed above or below the ribbon. Once you find it, click on the little triangle on the right end to drop down a menu. Choose to have it under your ribbon. (I am assuming that is what you want.)
