Default Automatically save Normal.dotm

How is it possible to activate/disactivate the Option "Automatically save Normal.dotm" in Wod 2013?

(Word 2010)

File > Options > Advanced > Save > Prompt before saving Normal Template (it will save a lot of grief if you always have this checked). Unchecked it will save without prompting.

I've posted elsewhere about constant nags to save Normal.dotm, but had no response... so I'll ask here as well. I take the point from above that it may be unwise to allow an auto-save, but why is this happening? If I view (and not necessarily edit) a third-party document with a different template, why should my system want to amend mine and save it? Certainly I don't want other people's preferences overwriting mine, but at the same time I'm getting fed up with having to go through all the prompts every time I leave a document not originated by me (or close Outlook, and get prompts about email.dotm).

Is there not an option for "Don't alter Normal.dotm unless I specifically edit it"?

GRAEME.

If you have the option set to prompt to save the normal template, then you will always get prompts to change it if something in the template changes. This might be as simple as the option to automatically update styles set, or it could be from the interaction of an add-in or anti-virus software. Given that it happens in Outlook also, I suspect AV software. Kaspersky, for example, has some strange interactions with Office.

Graham —

Thanks... I never thought of that. I couldn't work out why I was getting the prompts when apparently nothing had changed.

I use F-Secure — I'll have to contact them and ask if it's the case.

GRAEME.
