Format tab features for photo are dimmed under protected doc
Hi,
I created the Word template to protect the header / footer and some fields titles, then I use developer tab > Protect document > restrict formatting and editing, set the password, etc., everything is fine, when I tried to use this protected format template, insert texts and photos on the body, it was also fine, but when I highlight the photo, I found that I cannot use format tab as most of them are dimmed, how can I enable these feature under the protected word doc, many thanks. vvcat |

Which protection are you using? Protection for filling in forms?

yes, filing in forms, I have already created section breaks, section 1 protected, section 2 is editable, but cannot use some functions in format tab when I added the photo

This form of protection disables a number of Word functions, even in sections that are not protected. Try, instead, using content controls and restricting editing to no editing with exceptions.

OK, I got it, but I cannot imagine to use content controls!!!!
Let's say if the section 1 is protected, section 2 is unprotected and I assume section 2 is free for end users to add/edit/delete texts as well as insert photos, but the weird things is when someone insert the photos on section 2, they cannot use format tab functions for this photos!!! Also, if I added image content control on section 2 body for end user to upload the photo, can end users use format tab functions when they highlight the photo, apparently, it is not working!! Anyway, thanks your information. |

Not "protected" and "unprotected." Those are for filling in forms.
Editing Restrictions: Read Only, with exceptions. You put the exceptions where you want people to be able to make changes and make it an exception for everyone. While I expect that users will be able to use the formatting tab, I don't know because I've never tried this. Why don't you try and then educate me? |

One of the big reasons for the introduction of content controls was to get around the limitations that protection for forms imposes.
