cross-reference to field
context – "old style" document using autonumLgl for complex numbering =8-}
requirement – add a sprinkling of cross-references sjowing just the heading number problem – the headings have been carefully typed in as {field}{tab}{text}, and if I use the normal "Insert > Cross-reference > Heading > Heading text" mechanism then there's an unsightly tab-driven space in the cross-reference – plus the heading text, which is not wanted in this document. |

You need to create bookmarks of just the numbering field and then you can add a cross-reference to that bookmark.
The modern alternative is to use outline numbering instead of the fields and then you can add the cross-reference without the more labour intensive step of adding the bookmark first.
