Is there any way to import a bunch of sources for references in a bibliography (say in BibTex or RefNote or RIS formats)?

Or do I have to enter each one manually through the Source Manager?

For example, here's the webpage of a scientific paper:

http://journal.publications.chestnet...icleid=1085494

It would be nice to be able to import the source from there into Word without having to type all the information into Word manually.

I believe it is possible but you will need third party tools to help you. The basic principle is to export the citations from a source such as the one you pointed at and then use these tools to import the wanted citations.

Please note that I have not tried any of these but this is the results from my quick Google Search.

The one that looks most promising is a free Reference Manager called Mendeley. http://www.mendeley.com/features/reference-manager/

You will be able to find youtube videos which describe how it works with Word.

Let us know how you get on with this task - I would be very interested to hear if it works well.

I don't think Mendeley is going to do what I want.

Like other third-party reference managers, Mendeley seems to bypass Microsoft Word's own citation manager and insert references into the document by itself.

But I work with a number of clients who insist on using Word's reference manager. They don't want to use any third-party tools.

So I still need some way to convert references into Word's own proprietary XML format so it can import them.

I would expect that someone somewhere has written a script that imports one of the standard citation export formats into Word's bibliography xml file.

Unfortunately, I don't know whether such a script has ever been made available for free on the web.

Well, there is bibutils.

But it's so old that it no longer works on today's versions of Windows. Evidently it must have used old 16-bit functions.

I may email the author and ask if he can compile a version that works on 64-bit Windows, which is what I have.
