Default Mac Word save to PDF creates multiple documents

I have created a document of 25 pages mostly in portrait orientation but with a two page section in the middle containing a table in landscape orientation.

When I convert it to a PDF to send someone, it creates three separate PDF documents, the first section in portrait mode, the second comprising the middle pages in landscape, and a third section containing the final section in portrait mode.

In other words, it is breaking the document where it finds a section break with an orientation change.

There are other section breaks that don't coincide with orientation changes, and these are parsed and converted OK when saved to PDF.

The same document converts seamlessly to a single, contiguous PDF file using Word 2013 for Windows. But not on my new MacBook Pro with Word 2011 for Mac.

I know I could stitch the sections back together - but I didn't get the MacBook to increase my workload.

Is there a fix for this? Does Microsoft know it's a problem?
