OLE Links are being resized on update?
I am getting some strange OLE link behavior, and wondering/hoping somebody may have come across similar.
I think this may not actually be an MsWord issue either, but possibly a Windows or other problem. My Company has moved all of our 'workstations' to a virtual machine or VDI environment. So each day, we turn our laptops and then connect to our Virtual machines. Why we went that route is a whole other story. Now on my physical machine, I can take my Word document, change and update the links to an Excel file, and things look good. I take that same Word and Excel document on the VDI and update those same links, and now those same links/objects are being reduced in size. Example, an OLE chart that is sized in Word at 95% and 100% on the physical is being reduced to about 55% x 55% on the virtual. I haven't determined if all the OLE links are being reduced all at the same rate or not. Both the Physical and Virtual are both using Win7 64 bit OS and also 64 bit Office 2013. I also tried replacing the normal.dotm file from the physical onto the virtual and it had no effect, with the charts still being reduced in size. I'm going to keep experimenting to see if I can determine the root cause, but has anyone seen something like this? |

There is/was a known issue in earlier versions and there is registry key to fix it. Navigate to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\#\Exce l\Options] where # is the versions number - Office 2007 = 12.0 Office 2010 = 14.0 Office 2013 = 15.0 Add a new DWORD value: QFE_Boston Set the new DWORD value to 1

Thanks Macropod.
I did find that info searching as well and gave it shot for Office 2013 ie, (15.0) but it didn't fix the issue. I found that I can take a Word and Excel file on my physical laptop and transfer it to Virtual (work) machine. After relinking the documents, all the tables and charts are getting resized/reduced. But I can then take those files, transfer them back to the physical laptop, relink them and charts are resized back properly as they were. I think also If I fix them manually on the Virtual machine, it 'sticks' when I save and then relink them a 2nd time on the Virtual. It all strange behavior, and still not sure if its a Word, Window, or issues with our Virtual Machine structure. We are using VmWare products, connecting with Horizon View client softwares. |
