Getting error codes for Word 2007 cannot open word documents

On opening word 2007 (win 7) I get the following messages 1) This file can't be previewed because of an error in the microsoft word previwer.
2) There was a problem sending the command to the progam.

This means I cannot open any word documents.

Any help in resolving thisa issue would be greatly appreciated
