Default Custom UI Editor - 2013

I'm starting to read up some on how you can customize the Ribbon. One old topic/book I have refers to a Free version/download of a Custom UI Editor for Office 2007 and 2010. But it seems now for Office/Word 2013, this needs to be one with Visual Studio?

Can the free Community Edition of Visual Studio handle this readily? Or you need to purchase a Pro or other version?

I'm 'familiar' with XML, but have never programmed it. So would prefer some help with a software package if possible. But also seems Visual Studio is way more then I need, and would prefer a more lightweight software if one exists.

Thanks for the help... And I'm back to google to search and read for more answers

I'm still using the free Leafcreations Office Ribbon Editor and those ribbons work happily in Word 2007, 2010 and 2013. I usually put a single 2007 ribbon into my templates and that displays in the later versions. You can also create specific 2010 version ribbons to display in Word 2010 but IMO that is more trouble than it is worth.

There is an ugly learning curve to work out how to customise the ribbon but it is a whole lot easier to find online resources than it used to be. I have seen RibbonCreator that allows you to avoid the guts of the xml but I don't use it now I have been through that pain of learning the xml already.

I haven't used Visual Studio to do ribbons so I can't answer that query.

The Custom UI editor works also with Office 2013. You will still have to learn XML programming to make use of it. See http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/...bbon_main.html

You can use the 2007 ribbon format in 2007, 2010 and 2013 as indicated by Andrew.

Thanks guys.

I'm up for the challenge of learning the XML with the ribbon. I'm not a complete novice to it, but haven't done that much with it. I'm downloading both them now and will see how things go.
