Text boxes being cut off on LH side
Hi all, Having some issues ... I've created a Word document, with 6 linked text boxes, three on one page, three on a following page. On the Mac, everything looks and prints just fine, however when viewed and printed on a PC, about 5mm of the first two text boxes are cut off. Nothing has moved, just cut off. The other 4 text boxes are fine. Each text box has an image, with Text Wrap applied. Any ideas? This is driving me bonkers ... |

Possibly due to the printer driver on the PC informing Word that it can't print that close to the page edge.

I'll look into that just in case, however, this problem affects the text box also in the middle of the page, and no text boxes at all on the second page.
I thought it might have something to do with the fact that the first page, the only one that is affected, has a background image ... fiddled around with it, but it didn't seem to make any difference. |

Is there a difference in the style applied to the text in the box that has the problem?

Style ... I wanted to setup style sheets but couldn't get my head around it. I've already copied other text into the affected text boxes, tested it, and nothing was cut off. So I RETYPED the text, using the copied text as a base and it still doesn't work.
Who is responsible for creating Word anyway? These people need to be FOUND. |

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with the textboxes (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Fair point. OK, so now you can see where the issues are, and how the third column, which is linked to the two defective columns, is unaffected by this issue. Anyway, hope this helps, bring on the advice!

You haven't attach a document, as requested, but just an image of it...

OK so, a security token is missing, so I'm unable to attach the complete document ...

Security token? In any event, all we need is the problem portion.

Probably something to do with the file size exceeding the maximum limit ... derr. Anyway, I've taken the images out to get the size down, try this one ...

Nothing appears to be cut off when I open the document. The issues you're having may be related to whatever printer driver you're using and/or to your paragraphs having a -0.25cm left indent. It might be worthwhile checking your printer maker's website for an updated driver. I also have to wonder why you're using textboxes rather than a 3-column page layout.

I'm going to look into this 3 column page layout you mentioned to see if that helps. It wasn't done like that because usually, I work in InDesign ... I rarely use Word, and only to set up templates like this, so the client can do their own eFlyers.
Also, considering I had to remove the background image to bring down the file size, and you've experienced no issues, causes me to think that the image is creating the problem so, I'll try tackling it from that angle. Cheers anyway. |

It appears fine on my PC too - it may be a Mac thing.
In any case, the negative indent you have applied to the text is not good. You should remove the negative text indent and change the text box property to avoid the internal margins (which is probably why you applied a negative indent in the first place). In Windows you do this by right clicking the border of the text box and choosing Format > Text Box. You have laid out this document just like an InDesign user too. Generally we don't work the same way in Word and I think many typical Word users will find the multiple text box layout unintuitive. You should check with the client to see if they have Microsoft Publisher which is a low end but capable enough page layout program much better suited to this kind of layout. Full bleed artwork in Word is problematic because there is no sensible way to do cropmarks and bleed areas. I guess this doesn't matter on an eFlyer but in any case, I think your client would be much happier using Publisher to work with layouts like this. |
