Default Number from Barcode and MS Word - formatting number

Hi all,

i was thinking about a methot that would allow a user to scan a barcode with the barcode gun and automatically put it in a table with a " - " before the last digit.
So if the number scanned is 123456789 the result has to be 12345678-9

I tried with Fields and many others but nothing.

Can anyone solve this?

That really depends on what barcode format you're using. With a 3of9 barcode, adding the '-' via a field code would be a trivial exercise but for most others, you'd probably have to include the '-' in the barcode compression algorithm - you couldn't just add it to the field code.

the problem is that my barcode reader can't be programmed as i want. it was a fortune that it would read the italian registered mail barcode (that is a code of 11 digits with the - before the last one).
when i go to a post office i see that their reader only reads the digits and this number is put into a field __________ - _ automatically.
i will break my head on the weekend :-) many thanks.

What you see happening at the post office is because their barcode reader is programmed that way. If your reader doesn't put the '-' into the output, that's presumably because it isn't in the barcode. If you were to add it to your barcodes (even assuming you can do the required encoding), your barcode then wouldn't comply with the post office requirements. If, as you say, your barcode reader can't be programmed as you want, you'll need to get one that can.

the barcode is an interleaved 2of5.
maybe the - it's not inside the barcode that i scan. so what i understand is to program my "gun" to read the code and give it to me with the - before the last number.
correct?

If the barcode doesn't contain the '-', you have to program the scanner/gun to insert it when reading the barcode - you certainly can't just insert a '-' into the interleaved 2of5 barcode.
