About two weeks ago, I noticed my return and delivery addresses in Word went from single to double spaced in the mailing dialog. I was having some computer problems, so put it off until a clean reinstall of Win 8.1, which I did yesterday. But with the reinstall of Office 2010 Home & Student, it's still doing it. Any ideas? You can modify the Envelope Address style so that it has no spacing before/after and so that it has the line spacing set to "Single."

Where? In the Envelope Address dialog Advanced tab, spacing choices are Normal, Condensed, Expanded. I've been using for about 25 years and never seen this before, definitely not on install.

Exit the dialog box. With the insertion point inside the document, press Ctrl+Shift+S to display the Apply Styles dialog box. Type in Envelope Address and then click Modify. In the dialog box, click the Format drop down, and click Paragraph. Change the Line Spacing to "Single" and the Spacing Before/After to zero. When you are done, click OK. Click OK again in the Modify Style dialog.

Thanks. That showed me where the changes had been made. Strange given that I'd never been there.

If you or someone else changed the document defaults, or modified the Normal style, those settings were transferred to the Envelope Address style (and to many other styles as well).

None of the above. I think it was file corruption during the period the OS was tanking bit by bit.
