Default Keep Quick Parts with current document

I am not too familiar with using Quick Parts, but I have a document which needs to use a Building Blocks content control, and I need the values to travel with the document. The user needs to select one of several choices, and the values are too long to work with either legacy control combo boxes or content control combo boxes, so the only other option I have found is to use a Building Block content control.

I have tried creating a template with the values added to the Quick parts gallery, and attaching that template to the document, and the values are present on my machine, but if I move the document to another machine, they are not. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, but I'd guess that it's something simple for someone who is more familiar with the program.

If there's a better solution to allow me to have a drop down with lengthy text, I'd appreciate any suggestions. The only other option I have come up with is a VBA userform which is activated if the user enters a text field, but I'd prefer to not use macros as I have no control over the end user, and they may not want to allow macros.

Thanks.

Quick Parts (as well as other Building Blocks) can only be stored in templates, not in documents. What you can do is send both the document and its template to recipients. For more on templates, see http://shaunakelly.com/word/template...relations.html.

Thanks, I was assuming that attaching the template meant that it was included with the document. This sounds like that is not the case. I thought that I had read that this was possible.

My client will likely not want to provide 2 documents for a simple form, so I will need to find another way to do what needs to be done, or tell them that this cannot be done the way they expect.

You can, though, store the building blocks in a Global Template rather than in the document template. You could also distribute a template directly instead of a document. Again, building blocks can only be stored in templates.
