Default Form Merge Access 2002 to Word 2007 Issue

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. I have a problem that I haven't been able to get an answer to from searching online and it has me concerned.

In my workplace, we use Access 2002 for our real estate databases. My Office Manager designed them. Our IT guy has said it is imperative to switch to 2007 like the rest of our MS Office products. My Office Manager said she had tried it but for some reason it 'didn't work' so she backed off. I was going to work with that and see what I could do.

Anyhow, a few problems that arose while my office manager was on holidays and I am unsure if she'll be able to fix this.

I got a new computer, so we had to 'repath' the access to the 2007 Word forms for the database that we have. For some reason it wasn't saving the path even though I hit save. I did try to save as and replace but that didn't work.

So day before christmas at my IT guys suggestion I tried it again, he said make a very minor change the word document (add a . ? etc) and save. So I did this. Now I have made numerous changes to our word forms to alter them as needed over the years with no issues. But when I did it this time, the first window that always pops up on the forms didn't come up, and it only opened the document, the window we always see says:

Opening this document will run the following SQL command:
SELECT * FROM 'print to word document'

Data from your database will be placed in the document. Do you want to continue?

This window always comes up, then when I press Yes, it goes to the form. I then go to mailings, finish & merge, and then edit individual documents and my info from Access merges to the word form. But when I got my new computer I select Yes, then I have to go through choosing where to get the info, etc.
But now on that particular form, it just opens with no window and the mailing selections are all grayed out.

So my questions are as follows:

1. What did I do to mess it up. Why is that window not coming up. It has in the past and I've had no issues changing the forms. I do have a back up of the form but if I can't alter it then that's no good to me.

2. How do I get it to save the path so I don't have to go through all the trouble to selecting everything to get it to merge?

3. Has anyone tried to change from 2002 to 2007 access and been successful and are there any issues we might come across. My IT guy said if we wait any longer we'll only have problems changing as we change our MS Office.

Thanks in advance.

So I wanted to say I talked to another friend of mine and I think I have solved the issue.

He suggested I go into mailings, select recipients, use existing list.
So I did this, and I chose my path and it allowed me to merge.
However to solve this issue entirely I opened it up, pathed it with access and save as. I think the issue has to do with the change from .doc to .docx.

My one question still remaining is does anyone know how the move from access 2002 to 2007 would be?

I think this would be better posted in the Access forum rather than under Word.

Sorry about that. The problems I solved and were my main reason for posting were specifically a word issue and not knowing how to fix in word. However my last question is indeed an access issue. Would you like me to repost the one question in access. I certainly can.
