Linking A "Single Web Page" to Another Document
Merry Christmas Forum!
I built a single web page format Word doc which uses multiple links and bookmarks. I just learned that the links which open another PDF document are not working. The bookmarks are all good to go. Is this a limitation of the "Single Web Page" format or is there something I can do so that this word document opens up the PDF when the link is selected? Thanks for your help!!!! |

If you link a file, then the person using the link must also have access to the linked location. If this is a web page and your document is located on your PC, that is not going to happen. You must make the link to a location that the user has access to. If not a location on your web site then I suggest dropbox which is what I use to post images to this forum (as it is simpler to do that than add them to my own web site).

Thanks for the reply GMAYOR. I am using a document on a shared drive that is referencing a document on a shared drive. The link will not even work on my own computer.

OK, assuming the links are viable, that sounds like a different issue relating to file associations.
While Word 2013 can open PDF files, it is not a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader, and so would not naturally be associated with Word 2013 (and older Word versions could not open it at all). Even if you configure your PC to associate PDF format with Word 2013, others who have access to the shared drive are unlikely to have their PCs similarly configured.

I'm not able to open hyperlinked Word files from the Single File Web Page format either. It doesn't work with files on my computer or files saved to the shared drive. Is this a limitation of the Single File Web Page format or is there a format that I have to save the hyperlinked files in to get this to work?
Maybe A settings issue? |

Does clicking a document file in Windows Explorer open the file in Word? Or clicking a PDF file open it in Adobe Reader (asuming that is installed)? If not then the issue remains that of file associations. Right click the file in Windows Explorer, select Open With ... and choose Word (or Adobe Reader in the case of PDF) and check the box to always open with this application.
If it does then the attached zip file contains a single page web file with two hyperlinks. The first is to a web page, the second to a document. The first should open in your browser. The second should give you the option to save or open the document. Do these links work for you?
