Is there an equivalent of Word 2003's autotext in Word 2013?
In Word 2003 I used to use autotext a lot, to make corrections for which autocorrect was not suitable (e.g. form for from) and using abbreviations for commonly typed or complex longer words or phrases. In that system I could type "form" and then hit the F3 key, and it would convert to "from". Or I could define a proper name, or a phrase that I had to use a lot in a document, for example "proprietary estoppel", giving it the abbreviation "pest", and if I then typed pest and pressed the F3 key, the full phrase came up.
I can see that there is an autotext function in Word 2013 but it is much more limited than this, and less useful. Is there any equivalent in Word 2013 to what I used to use autotext for, please? |

Frankly autocorrect is the better option for correction or shortcuts. e.g. use a convenient symbol in front of the trigger keyset e.g. #pest for 'proprietary estoppel' so that accidental triggering is avoided.
You can use autocorrect to insert anything from a simple correction to pages of text and graphics. Autotext also works pretty much the same as it always did. You need a unique key of at least four characters before F3 will insert the text.

Qat
There is also now the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT), which may serve well for some longer Autotext entries, which can also be graphics, text boxes, and other things Autocorrect can't do. The nice thing about the QAT is using it's keyboard shortcuts. Alt+ the left-to-right number 1-9 (there are more possibilities you can look up) of the icons on the QAT triggers the function. So, for instance, if you place Autotext as the second item on your bar, Alt+2 opens your list of Autotext entries and another keystroke of two (first letter of entry name) and bingo!
