Word 2007 Activation / Registration

I have been using Office 2007 for several years.
I have a new laptop being built and want to get a copy of 2007 as I know it and it fills all my needs.

However, I'm concerned that some which are offered on ebay that "are no longer used", etc. have been activated / registered and can't be used again even though the sellers assure that they have the product key.



My experience has been that once a MS product has been activated / registered it can't be used on another computer unless it is deactivated / de-registered.

What say the folks in the know?

You should check the EULA for your current copy - it may already allow installation on more than PC/laptop, in which case there shouldn't be an issue. In any event, if you're retiring the old PC/laptop and you do encounter an activation problem, you can still do the activation by phone.

There is no facility for 'deactivating' an Office installation. Anything you buy 2nd-hand may have already used all the permitted activations - and may even have been sold to other users as well. You have no way of knowing until you try to activate it - at which point you may find you still have to use telephone activation and, even if you don't, you still won't know whether you've reached the limit.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.
I don't want to take the copy off of my current notebook as I will continue to use it i my shop.
Perhaps my best option is just to buy a new sealed copy.

Again, check your EULA - it may already allow installation on more than one PC/laptop. In any event, you're most unlikely to be able to "buy a new sealed copy" of office 2007 - you would probably have to buy Office 2013, though you might still be able to buy a copy of Office 2010.
