Suddenly, w/o warning the copy and paste feature in my MS Word stopped working. I can "copy" words, then the paste is greyed out, or there is nothing on the clipboard. I've tried it both ways, with copy + paste icons, and with the clipboard.


anyone have this problem?

I don't know 2000 well, so I don't know if this is version-specific, though I doubt it. I can think of three things to check:

1. Does the text you are trying to copy and paste has a fine dotted underline? If so, it is probably "hidden text" and won't copy. You can select it, go to font properties, and uncheck "Hidden text", unless

2. The document is password protected, in which case you will need the password to unprotect it.

3. If neither of those is the cause, perhaps either your Normal template has been boggled up somehow, or Word itself is. I don't think 2000 has a repair function in the menus, though it may, under Help or Tools. If not, and if you have the installation CD, you may try running repair from that.

After shutting down and rebooting this morn. Copy+paste is working. Yeh! There was a huge amount of info from the net on the clipboard and I believe that is what caused the problem.

I have wireless mouse. Also a wired keyboard i keep attached for when i need access b4 pc is completely booted. I had same prob only rebooting did not help.

Found out the keyboard had tipped over (had it on it's side to save space) and one of the F keys (or some key) was depressed. Moved the keyboard and all worked ok. So it could also be a stuck key. Did not have a repeat or 'buffer full' beeping.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
