Default Word acting squirrely again.

This has happened often before and, in past, I’ve had to reinstall it. Maybe there is a way to fix without going to this much trouble.

I’m typing and I have misspelled a word. I place the cursor over the letter that needs to be corrected and highlight it. Then, when I type in the new letter, the next letter in the word (a correct letter) is removed and replaced by the new one and this continues over and over. There is no way to correct the misspelled word. I just continues to be obliterated. I don’t know if I have explained this so that it can be understood (it’s difficult) but maybe someone understands and has experience with the issue. If not, I’ll try to explain it again.

Does anyone understand?

You could be describing Overtype mode. Click the Insert key on your keyboard once to turn it off and return to Insert mode.

Thanks Stefan,

Last tie it happened, I restarted the computer to see if the problem would go away and it did. I’m composing this in Word and it’s not happening now but the next time it does, I’ll try the Insert key. I always wondered what it’s for.

Sounds to me like you might have Track Changes on. Check it's state on Word's Status Bar. If it's on, the TRK will be black; otherwise it'll be grey. Double-clicking it changes it's state.

Thanks Paul,

It’s grey now. I looked here: http://shaunakelly.com/word/sharing/...ngesworks.html
It doesn’t look like something I would need very often, if ever. Since I didn’t even know what it is, do you have any idea about how it might have gotten turned on (not something I would have done intentionally)?

In the status bar at the bottom of the Word window you will see TRK for track changes. A mouse click on that will turn this on (or off).

If we're talking annoying accidents, ctrl + shift + E is the keyboard shortcut to toggle track changes.

Default acknowledge appreciation

Thanks all,

Most forums/groups/communities have little options to acknowledge appreciation for good replies/posts, and maybe there here too, but I don’t see them……….if here, where, what?

I'm not sure about the 'most forums' part, though some have features of that kind. Here you can use the 'Rate this thread' option for rating the thread as a whole.

Thanks maropod,

You have all provided your best guesses to my problem (which I have probably explained poorly) and I very much appreciate it. I suspect that some, if not all, solutions provided are correct and have, therefore, rated this thread as excellent.

Thanks again
