Red face Figures 1 through X??

I'm trying to have a simple auto filled entry on the 1st page of my document

Pages 1 through X
Figures 1 through Y

X is easy - Field 'NumPages'
Y is not.

Is there a way to get the number of figures to be determined? If it helps all figures have a caption. All my googlefu has not helped me, i've tried looking as options for a long time with no luck. I'm not sure the best approach for this.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can bookmark the caption number of your last figure and then insert a cross-reference to that bookmark in place of "Y" in your example. If you add captions in the middle of the text, you can simply update the cross-reference. Of course, if you add new figures after the last one, you will have to recreate the bookmark.

This is the best answer I've seen so far in all my searching. Not perfect but i think i can get it to work for my own cases.

I am trying to make a format that can be used by others, not so technically aware, so it won't be perfect. But still at least this can be done in some hack method.

Thanks, and if anyone else knows another alternative please let me know.
