Question how to get a customized page background color repeated to another document

I have a problem when it comes to trying to repeat a customized color, whether it be within the document or in a new document where I would like to use this color again.

How do I know what shading or RGB code I used? There seems to be no record of it. This is always a problem, but especially with the page background color since I can't seem to be able to select and copy the color.

In both cases there is no way to know what the exact RGB code is, whether it be the page background color or shading within the document, at least not that I can find.

Is there any way to know exactly what color a customized color is so that it could be repeated elsewhere or maybe saved somehow?

Assuming you've use Word's 'Page Color' function, simply open the shaded document, then choose Page Layout | Page Color | More Colors >Custom and the RGB values will be displayed.

Thanks for the know-how. I was thinking there might be a place where it is stored or at least a way to save such format stats, colors, shading, borders..., for a document.

Those details are stored in the document's metadata. They can be retrieved via a macro or via the GUI using the approach I described.

Of course, if you want to use the settings as the basis for new documents, the idea would be to save an empty version of the document as a template, then use that when creating the new documents.

Macros are something I know nothing about, but would be interested in a beginner to intermediate (or maybe advanced beginner) instructional guide for Word 2013. I can't seem to find anything like that, though; just various YouTube clips and internet articles ranging from simple to complex macros, not necessarily to do with Word 2013. Nothing really "altogether" with a starting point and a progressive end point that extends beyond the creation of a single macro. In other words a basic, but comprehensive [oxymoron] manual for Word 2013 macros.

I tried saving a template of the document, but it would not include the page background color.
Here is an image of the template.

I ended up jotting down the RGB codes for the page background color in the "comments" section of the document template I saved.

The reason you won't find much that is for Word 2013 is that most macros (even those written for Word 97) work with all versions of Word. Granted, those written to make use of later features won't, but they tend to be in the minority.

FWIW, what I see in your link is not a page background colour but the shading of table cells. The page itself seems to have no background colour applied.

PS: You can attach actual documents to a post here via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Quick reply: You must misunderstand, the image I posted is the saved template. The page background color did not get included, but there seemed to be no problem with the shaded table cells. This is what I am trying to relate with the image I posted.

Thanks for the tip about attachments, didn't know that.

When I save a document with a coloured page background as a template, then create a new document by double-clicking the template, the coloured page background appears as it should. I can only conclude your document didn't have a coloured page background when you saved it as a template.
