Default Aligning Page Numbers in a TOC

Using Headings 1, 2, and 3 in a TOC. Default postion of page numbers is H1 aligned right-most, H2 aligned to the left of H1, and H3 aligned to the right of H2. This creates a difficult pattern for the eye to follow.

Is there a way to "stairstep" the page numbers: H1, H2 to the right of H1, and H3 to the right of H2 (prefered)? Or, H1 aligned right, H2 left of H1, and H3 left of H2? Either way, it is much easier for the eye to follow the logical pattern.

To "stairstep" the page numbers to your liking, select the TOC style for each heading, then click the Modifybutton and adjust the right-aligned tab to stairstepped postion desired.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Jim. The text is aligned okay - is there a way to similarly align the page numbers?

Default Page Numbers Aligned as Desired

Jim,

I thought I could not modify the TOC from within; however, I selected the TOC, selected one of the H1s, moved the right tab indicator on the ruler to the position I wanted, and all the H1 page numbers moved to the selected place. To test, I updated the table and the new tab position held. Looks like the answer.

Appreciate your help.

R/Phil

I was referring to the page numbers...not the text. All you need to do is modify the right-aligned page number for each TOC style (TOC 1, 2 and 3 for Heading 1, 2 and 3) to the desired stairstep you want.

Maybe I have misunderstood but, see the attachment for clarification.

Ooops. Just saw your latest entry...glad you got it sorted.
