Default Imported styles have different settings than the source document, why?

I am trying to import a coouple styles from one document to another. When I use the Organizer and import the styles, they have different indentation settings than they did in the source document. What is making them change?

Are the styles based on one another or on other styles?

When using cascading styles (those based upon one another) I always copy them three times in the Organizer to maintain the connections.

If they are based on styles not being copied, they will pick up influences from styles in the destination document.

Thank you for your reply. Yes they are based on each other.

When you copy three times, do you mean you highlight them and click the copy button three times or do you have to close the file and go through the entire process three times.

Thank you

Highlight them and click the copy button three times.

After the first time you may be asked if you want to overwrite existing styles. If so, the answer is yes.

Unfortunitly, clicking the copy button three times did not work. The first style indentation was correct (level 1) but the others were all wrong. This is such a waste of time to have to fix each one. there must be a solution to this problem (Word 2010).

I figured out what the problem was and I caused the problem myself. I did not know there is a separate list indentation dialog window. I thought you set bullet and number list indentations using the paragraph indents dialog. After I adjusted my list indents correctly, the styles imported correctly.

I didn't understand that you were talking about numbering. If you haven't already done so, look at How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly.
