Old "mailto" hyperlinks appearing in word documents
I have a proposal document that I re-use by changing the specifics (names, addresses, etc.). One of the specifics is an email address, which is hyperlinked.
A client just called and said she can see the four prior email addresses (from previous proposals) listed as mailto:name@company.com underneath the actual active hyperlink. She has Microsoft Word 2003. Has anyone ever seen this problem before? Anything I can do to make sure clients don't see who else I'm sending proposals to?? |

That suggests the document was updated with the 'Track Changes' setting on, or that the old links weren't actually deleted. For the 'Track Changes' issue, go to Review>Changes, click on the down arrow below 'Accept', then choose 'Accept all changes'. Also, Word has an option to warn you if a document contains Tracked Changes, under File|Options>Trust Center>Privacy Options. You should either keep that option checked or, before sending a document elsewhere, use the 'Prepare for Sharing>Inspect document' tool to check the document.

Thanks, but it's not a tracked change. And no other changes (of the 20 or so I made) are appearing. Just the "mailto."

In that case, it's evident the old links haven't been deleted. Maybe they've just be formatted as hidden text. Without seeing the actual document, it's impossible to know for sure.
