Default Turning a manual written Table of content into automatic one.

Hello, first of all thank you for your help.

I started writing my thesis and created a manual table of content in the style like this.

1. dsfadf
1.1 asfdasdf
1.1.2 adfasfasf
2. safadfaf
2.1 sdfadadafdf

I have encountered two problems while trying to use the automatic table of content tool.

1. Word seems to add in everyone of my bulletpoints as a part of the table of content....so all my text.
2. How do i create an automatic table of content in the style shown above?

Thanks again
Amro

Basically, you can't do such a conversion. What you can do is delete the manual one and insert an automatic one that only references the heading Styles that you intend to include. Of course, if you've been applying those same Styles to non-headings, then overriding their formatting, those non-headings will also appear in the TOC. You need to fix the cause, not the symptoms, which you do by applying the correct Styles to the bulleted content.

Once you apply the proper styles (modifying the style definitions so that the text looks the way you want it to look) the TOC is a snap.
