Unhappy Navigation pane

I have word 2013.. When I click on the navigation pane under pages...the numbering format does not match the document page numbers .. Ie..1,2,3 at the bottom of navigation pages.. And then they start all over again at 1,1,1,
Now I did delete the pages footers in the main document and the page numbers. How do I get rid of the crazy format and keep it uniform..in other words pane matches word document

Hi Beverly,

I'm not sure what is going on. I'm not sure what it is you describe.

See the attached screenshot.
It is from a two-section document where the page number restarts at the beginning of the second section.
The status bar at the bottom shows both the formatted page number (1) and actual page number (8).

The page number that would show up in the navigation pane is the formatted page number.
