Default Template creation

Hello,
I am currently creating some templates.
I would like to insert fields, that if you open the template the first time a popup window will ask you to fill out those fields.

is this possible without a macro?
How does it work?

Thanks

Using ASK and FILL-IN fields. Most users find these annoying. Simple Content Controls will probably do what you want but they don't "pop up."

See the ASK field tutorial at Tutorials and Word Content Controls. Neither of these tools require macros.

Note: You do not want your users to "open" your templates, but rather to create a new document based on the template. This is a very different process. Templates in Microsoft Word

I would urge to to consider the use of a userform to gather the data. This is the most elegant approach and relatively simple to achieve. The values from the userform can be used to populate bookmarked locations, content controls or docvariables and their associated fields. The basics are covered at http://www.gmayor.com/Userform.htm

I agree with Graham and would have recommended a userform but for your constraint of "without macros." These are much easier on the user. A problem with successive ASK or FILLIN fields is that if you make a mistake you probably have to start all over from the beginning. If you have very many questions to answer, it is a real pain.

A userform is a custom dialog box which can gather all the information you need in one go and which can be recalled to make corrections. It does, though, require vba (macros).
