Hello and first post here as I seek some help in trying to speed up a file opening.



Over the past several months I have been updating our office Excel and Word "template". And we currently used Office 2007, so the entire rewrite has been done in 2007. However we are moving to Office 2013 in about 2 months Company wide, thus I'm working to ensure things work correctly in the new version.

The MSWord Report contains about 65 links to charts in Excel. I have disabled Update automatic links on open in both Word 2007 and Word 2013.

In Office 2007, the file opens almost instant. But in 2013, the file takes over a minute to open in showing an XX% as it slowly loads.

Would anyone have any suggestion on trying to figure out why it may be taking so long? I may try and relink everything with a new 2013 file to check for compatibility issues, but I Not sure if that will help or not.

There was a problem of this kind with Office 2010, for which a hotfix & registry edit were required. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2504009. I'm not sure if it's the same issue for Office 2013 - I doubt you could use the Office 2010 hotfix and the path for the registry edit would differ too.

Another possibility is that Word 2013 is slower working with Office 2007 files than with native Office 2013 files.

I'm going to spend some time looking at it today as I still have about 2 months before I need to officially roll this out to the staff in our Company.

I'm going to start by re-saving the file in the office 2013 format, and then removing all of the links/tables in the Word doc to see if speeds it up.

I will report back over the next several days to provide an update on speedingit up.
