"Speak" in Word 2013 stopped working

I’m using Windows 8.1, and “Speak” in my Office 2013 Word and in my Home and Student 2010 Word has stopped working.



The “Speak” button in the Quick Access toolbar gets a red circle with an “x” in it when I click on it.


Narrator still works, and when I click on Control Panel/Speech Recognition/Text to Speech, I can preview (listen to) and change Text to Speech voices, but again, they won’t work on Office 2013 or on Home and Student 2010.
