code for single quotes (^34 and the like)
I know I can search for accidental "straight" single and double quotes by searching for ^34 and ^39. But what is the code for the single quote that looks like this `, created by the leftmost top key on on the most common keyboard layouts (e.g. US 101 and US International). The key with ` and ~. Is there a code to search for that character? (And, incidentally, does it have a corresponding character that slants the other way?) MTIA. |

^96 is `
and ^180 is ´ (CTRL+', Space) Use Insert Symbol with the (Normal) setting for a listing of the characters and their DEC and HEX values.

Thanks, the DEC values were what I'm looking for. Silly because it's so obvious, but I didn't realize that's what the numbers referred to.

But uhm... just out of curiosity: it doesn't seem to work for all the symbols I see. E.g. the ellipsis (the single character representing three dots) is listed in the symbols dialogue as having Ascii DEC value 133. But when I type ALT+133 I get à, and searching for ^133 also doesn't turn up the ellipsis.

You need to type ALT+0133 - …
ALT+096 - ` ALT+0180 - ´ etc. Search for ^096, ^0133, ^0180
