Default .rtf being recognized as picture

I am opening a blank Word document. I am dragging an .rtf file onto the Document. When I do this, I am getting a blue border around the text and cannot edit it. If I double click within the blue border then I get a second window, where I can drag the text, but it is completely dependent on the first window.

I just want to bring in the .rtf file, make any necessary edits, and save the file back out as a .rtf file. I am not sure how or why this is happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Probably Word takes the RTF file as an embedded object when you drag it, try opening the file by double-clicking it or 'File->Open...'.

Thanks so much for the help. I think that is exactly what is happening.

Default Rtf

Instead of dragging, I can think of three alternative routes.
One, is to open your .rtf doc in Word and save it as a .doc.
Two, is to Select All in your .rtf doc, copy, and paste into a new Word doc.
Third, is to open a new Word doc and Insert/Object/Text from file from your .rtf. (The old 2003 shortcut works, Alt+I,L.)

Does this resolve your problem?
