Word creating opening new docs in background???

Hello everyone,



This is my first post here, although I have been a MS Office user for over 20 years (I think). Just recently, I have been seeing a very peculiar behavior by MS Word 2010 running on Win 7 64bit. When I launch Word, I expect to see it create a new doc titled Document 1 just as it has for years on this same laptop. However, it will occasionally launch with a new doc titled, for example, Document 24. Today, it launched with Document 74. I closed Word, reopened it, and it launched with Document 75. There are no recently saved documents. I have had continuous AV protection with this machine.

Any thoughts?

It has been a while since I've used Windows 7.
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Are you able to get a Task Manager?
If so, see if any traces of Winword.exe are running. If so, stop them.
