embedded links in protected document
I have created a word document that copies data from a spreadsheet in the same subdirectory. These fields are protected - the user can only edit a couple of text boxes in the document. The problem is that, because parts of it are protected, the document opens in a 'protected' mode (I have to hit escape to open the document fully) and it does not copy over the data from the spreadsheet. When the document is unprotected I get the "this document refers to links..." pop-up and the data transfers properly, but then the user is able to edit that data, which I don't want. I did change the trust centre settings and saved the files onto my C drive (rather than the corporate network) but that did not fix the problem. Does anybody know what is causing this and how I can have the file open the way that I want it to, even when parts of it are protected. Thanks John |

I take it you're using forms protection. If you insert Section breaks either side of the embedded object and leave that section unprotected, its links can be updated. The downside is that the section containing the object is editable in other respects as well, but that may be an acceptable compromise.
