Default Office 2003 technical issue

Hello

I currently use Office 2003 and I have a general understanding of how to change settings when required. However, starting today I've been unable to adjust and save new page settings. I've included a screen shot to illustrate the problem.

1. I'm unable to set the top and bottom margins. I can't even manually adjust the margin which extends to the very top and bottom of the page.

2. I can't adjust the settings to give me an 8.5 x 11 page.

I've tried to reset the defaults but nothing changes. The only way I can actually set up an 8.5 x 11 page is to open an existing document and delete its contents and then start a new one.

If somebody can please help me in sorting this out I would very much appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you.

Page sizes in Word 2003 are controlled from the 'Paper' tab, not from the 'Margins' tab (i.e. File>Page Setup>Paper>Paper Size). If you use that to choose 'Letter' and click the 'Default' button, that should result in all future documents starting off with that as their paper size.

Your margins are fine. You are simply not displaying the "white space." This is often the result of a stray mouse click.

Move your mouse pointer to your top margin just under the ruler until it changes to an up-and-down arrow (see below), then click. Elusive White Space

Hello to both of you.

First off, I'm sorry for the late reply, I've been away for a few days. I wanted to say thanks very much for both of your replies. Your tips and comments resolved the problem.

Now that I'm here I have one more question to ask help with if either of you don't mind. When I look at my page and rulers across the top and sides I am looking at measurements in cm's. How can I convert it so I am looking at inches?

Thank you again.

Go to Tools>Options>General and change the 'Measurement Units' to Centimeters.
