How to either move document display to right or left; or reduce size of find/replace window.
I perform a job in a multiple page Word document and often use the find/replace window to search for items, but the find window is always in the wrong place covering some content. I would like to shift the document display over to the left, or to the right, and possibly reduce the size of the find/replace window. Does anybody have any idea if either of these is possible and how I could do either in Word 2007?

After the first Find, you can dismiss the dialogue box altogether and simply press the double-down symbol in the lower-right corner of the document window. Similarly, Ctrl-F should open the Find pane on the left side of the document window, allowing you to see all instances of the found expression there.

Paul, in Word 2007 the find dialog pops up, not the Word 2010 Navigation Pane.
AFAIK, the Find/Replace/GoTo dialog cannot be resized. You can make it larger by clicking on the "More" button. You can resize your Word window and drag the Find dialog outside that Window. So long as it isn't covering a found item, it seems to stay put. I suppose a macro could do this for you. It will pop out of the way of any found text, if that helps. I know of no way to permanently position it. Using the browse object as Paul suggested, though, may meet your needs. |
