Default Different page number position

Hello everyone,

I am a new user of this forum. I use Office 2013 on Windows 8, but my current question is one I was asked by a friend who uses Office for Mac, I only guess that it's the latest version.

What he wants to do, and I do not know how, is to set a different position to the page numbers in the following way.

On each first page of each chapter in his document, he wants the number to be at the head of the page, while on the other pages of the chapter, at the bottom.

How do you do that ?

The tip his tutor gave him was to put a text box to cover the number where he doesn't want it, and to add a text box with the number where he does. I believe there must be a more elegant way to do this.

Thank you !

Assuming each chapter is in a section, then you/he could try taking a look at the Page Layout options; specifically, "Different first page". If this turns out to be useful, ask the tutor for a rebate :-}

Allow for the fact I'm posting based on Word 2010/Windows; also, haven't needed to use this particular option for many years now.

If each Chapter is started with a Section break, the different first page setting for headers and footers would, indeed, be the answer. This has been true since at least Word 97, and, I believe since Word 2.

AFAIK, this works the same on the Mac version as on Windows versions.
