I lost my Format tab on my standard ribbon. How do I get it back?

Forgive my asking, but are you certain that you had one? Format is an item in 2003's menu bar, but in Word 2007, the formatting links are largely on the Home tab.

No problem in asking. I am an old 2003 user and am still feeling my way through 2007. I am trying to shadow text and this is the description I get in Help.

Under WordArt Tools, on the Format tab, in the WordArt Styles group, click Shape Fill, and then do one of the following:

If you do not see the WordArt Tools or Format tabs, make sure that you selected the WordArt.

Where is this format Tab?

One other thing. Whenever I open WORD the document number is Document2 instead of Document1.

Okay, now I understand. This is one of the endearing features of the so-called ribbon that some of us would love to see fall off a cliff somewhere. Anyway, On your Insert tab, click on WordArt. Choose one and click on it. If you like, enter your text, or just say OK to have "Enter your text here" appear in your document as WordArt. NOW you'll see the Format tab under WordArt Tools, previously hidden. Don't we just love it?

Bingo! I should have known that. I was using text before and that is why the format tab was there.

Glad we solved one problem, at least. You've got me on the document 2 at opening, if this is happening even when you first log in, The implication is that Doc 1 has already been created in that session. Maybe someone else has an answer to that one.
