Default First page of template shows up later in document

I have a letterhead template I made with a different first page header/footer set up.

I have this one long document I am moving to the new template. A couple of times the first page header/footer has popped up in the middle of the document.

The first time it was happening, if I cut/paste some text that contained a Heading1, the first page header/footer shows up, but if I cut/paste just the body text, and then type in the heading it works as expected.

I have not been able to figure out how to fix the second case. I have split heading2/paragraph that I want to move entirely to the next page. When I add additional newlines, the first page header/footer pops up on the following page. I tried deleting the heading2 and just move the body text to the next page. Same problem. I tried adding a page break. Same problem.

Is this a bug, or did I stumble into a "feature" some how? How do I get rid of the first page header/footer from the rest of the document?

Thanks,
Brad

Both cases indicate a section break.
Each section has a first page. The first page header for that section will display on that first page of the section. You can change that setting in each section.

Turn on the display of non-printing formatting marks to see section breaks.

You can also see this in the status bar at the bottom of the window if you have it set to show sections.

Charles,

Yes, that does appear to be the case. If I delete the right section breaks, the first page header/footer goes away.

However, the section is apparently what makes my two columns (I have a bunch of short bullet points and I put them in two columns to save space.)

Removing the sections takes away the columns. Putting the columns back, puts the section back and the first page header/footer comes back.

I can use a table instead of rows, but that is a less elegant solution.

Is there a way to use columns?

Thanks!
Brad

Columns are a section setting. To have multiple columns (newspaper style) you have to have a separate section.

However, your column section can be set to not have a different first page header/footer.

I know it is frustrating and it shouldn't take this much work to deal with this, but it does. Please, read the links I gave you. Read my previous response which tells you to change the setting for the section, not to delete the section break.
