Question Customize styles for Chapters and paragraph titles on pages and table of contents

Hello,

I can't understand how to customize the styles and numbering for Chapters titles. I worked for hours without any result.

I'd like to obtain something like that:

"-- beginning of page --

CAPITOLO #
Title of the
chapter

_______(a coloured border)______

(space)

TEXT
TEXT
TEXT
........ "

"CAPITOLO" is "Chapter" in Italian (I have Word in English, because I need to have sometimes "chapter" and some other times "capitolo").
After the number of the Chapter I want to go on a new line.

Then, the titles of the paragraphs need to be like this:
1. First one
1.1 First - first one
1.1.1 xxxxxxx
1.1.2 xxxxxxx
1.2 xxxxx
1.2.1 xxxxx
2. Second one
2.1 xxxxxx
etc.

I know how to properly number the paragraph and Chapter titles (with styles and numbered lists), I know how to set the proper style in order to obtain a coloured border, for example, spacing after the title, etc.

What I can't understand how to do (after hours of work):
1 - How to have a new line after "chapter ##" and then the title of the chapter;
2 - How to let "Chapter #" in a style (ie. blue 20pt) and the title of the chapter in another style (ie. red 30pt);
3 - How to have a Page Break BEFORE any CHAPTER title (I want each Chapter to begin on a new page) - POSSIBLY, I'd like all Chapter to begin on a ODD page;
4 - How to build automatically the Table Of Contents without numbering (just chapters and paragraphs names);
5 - On the Table of Contents, how to make Chapters titles with a stile (ie. bold 14pt) and its paragraphs with another style (ie. normal weight 12pt); then I'd like to have a space between the different chapters.

In brief, I need to obtain a school-book style document. I need to write a fancy documentation for a product and I need to do it like the ones you buy at the shop...

Thank you very very much for any help!
TZ.

The Chapter ## has to be one style, which is set to be followed by a second style which would be the chapter title.
You can set the paragraph formatting of your chapter # style to be page break before. Changing to an odd page, requires a section break.
Create your TOC to not pay attention to your Chapter # style.
